Measuring the Value of Metrics

The increasing scrutiny to which law departments are subject has required them to design new (for them) means of monitoring their processes and operations. This task comes under the rubric of "metrics."

Whether comparing its own work to that of other organizations ("benchmarking") or developing consistent tests of its operations that it applies periodically (internal metrics), a law department should analyze its operations to identify which data would serve its interest the most, develop mechanisms by which to collect the data and then commence analyzing the data so captured and organized.
